SANDERS APPOINTED TO PEANUT STANDARDS BOARD
Alabama Farmers Federation District 10 Director Carl Sanders, a peanut producer from Brundidge, was one of five representatives recently appointed by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to serve on the Peanut Standards Board. Each member will serve through June 2015.
"Ultimately, [the board's] goal is to ensure we have the highest quality of peanuts available for our consumers," said Sanders. "As peanut producers and industry specialists, we know what American consumers deserve, and we will do whatever it takes to see that goal reached."
In addition to Sanders, appointments include Ann King of Georgia, industry representative; Leslie Crall of Oklahoma, producer; George McGee of North Carolina, producer; and Jane Campbell of Virginia, industry representative. Carl Gray of North Carolina was also selected to fill an industry representative vacancy, which ends June 30, 2014 for the Virginia-Carolina Region. A vacancy remains in the Southwest Region.
Authorized under the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, the Peanut Standards Board helps establish or change quality and handing standards for domestically produced and imported peanuts. It is comprised of 18 members including Alabama, Georgia and Florida, Southeast Region; Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, Southwest Region; Virginia and North Carolina, Virginia-Carolina Region.
