CLEAN DAY WASTE PESTICIDE COLLECTION EVENTS SET FOR AUG. 28-29
MONTGOMERY, Ala., Aug. 14, 2013 — Alabama Agriculture and Industries Commissioner John McMillan announced today that a Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection will be held for Cullman, Jackson, Lauderdale, Limestone, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Marshall counties Aug. 28. An additional Clean Day event has been added for Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Perry and Shelby counties the following day.
Sponsored by the Department of Ag and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, with funding provided by a grant from US Environmental Protection Agency Region 4, the Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection Program is offered to all participants at no charge.
"The Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection Program helps farmers, small businesses, households, and other pesticide users to properly dispose of unwanted and unusable pesticides,” said McMillan. "State sponsored waste pesticide collections provide a means to remove these wastes and help pesticide users comply with the law while ensuring the safety of the environment."
Unusable and unwanted pesticides must be disposed of according to label instructions. As a reminder, it is illegal to bury, burn, or dump a pesticide. Pre-registration is required to participate in the program.
